Cartagena's old walled town, which consists of the historical districts of El Centro and San Diego, is filled with colonial architecture, churches, monasteries, plazas, palaces, mansions with overhanging balconies and shady patios. The old town is surrounded by Las Murallas, thick walls dating back to the end of the 16th century. With so much to explore, the best way to experience the old town is by foot: wander leisurely through the streets, take in the architectural details, and stop for coffee and local snacks along the way.
